Shop Staff
Moira MacAvoy, Owner and needleworker

“I started Accomplishments Needlework as an online business in 1999, and a year later opened the shop which is now located in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia. In Accomplishments I have combined my interests in needlework and history, especially English and American history. My favorite stitching technique is crewel embroidery, but I also love multi-stitch counted thread and canvas work, as well as traditional needlepoint. Because I am an animal lover I am particularly drawn to designs that include dogs, squirrels, rabbits, birds, frogs, lions, dragons and other creatures, and I rarely go anywhere without my pet dachshund, Brandon.”
Jean Andrews, Co-owner and bookkeeper

"I joined Moira as co-owner of Accomplishments soon after the shop opened. My crafting life began in earnest at age 18 when a co-worker at my weekend movie theater job taught me to needlepoint. My favorite historical needlework period is the Tudor era, and I also collect early 20th century needlework books and publications. Because I am a “numbers person”, I enjoy all types of work done on a grid, including needlepoint, counted thread, and hardanger. Recently retired after a 31 year career in finance, I have a wonderful DH Ron and am "mom" to two rescue dogs - Brutus and Spencer."
Carolyn Altenderfer, Part time sales help, avid needleworker

"I met Moira at a meeting of Monticello Needlearts, our local EGA chapter. I have worked mostly in cross stitch, but since starting at Accomplishments, I have explored a new dimension: working on crewel and needlepoint!"
Mavia Brown, Part time sales help, full time daughter and advisor

Like Moira, like daughter! Mavia is an accomplished needlepointer, enjoys crewel embroidery, and is great with stitch and color selection. Mavia works at the New York Botanical Garden but still finds time to assist her mother in selecting the best of the best merchandise.
